COYOTE REGULATIONS/SEASONS

The coyote shooting season opens September 11, 2010 and closes July 9, 2011. A Coyote Shooting Licence permits hunters to use centerfire rifle calibres up to and including .225 (i.e. .17 Rem., .22 Hornet, .204 Ruger, .218 Bee, .222 and .223 Rem., .223 WSSM, .22-250 Rem., .220 Swift, .224 Weatherby Mag. and .225 Win.). Shotguns may also be used but hunters may only use No. 2 shot or larger. Slugs are not permitted. Holders of a coyote shooting licence are not permitted to use rimfire rifles to hunt coyotes. Coyotes may be harvested by holders of a valid big game, small game, or wolf shooting licence during the open season and in the management area where the licence is valid (big game licences become invalid when the tags are filled). Hunters may harvest coyotes using firearms and ammunition permitted under the authority of the licence type they possess. Hunters who use a shotgun while hunting small game must use shot size No. 2 or larger to harvest coyotes
(slugs are not permitted). All hunters must report the numbers of coyotes taken and must submit coyote
carcasses to their nearest DNR office. A $25 collection fee is offered for coyote carcasses. Due to the volume of furbearer carcasses submitted, please allow a minimum of 6-8 weeksto receive your payment. Hunters may offer coyote pelts for market. Fur Export Permits may be required for hunters
shipping furs out of province.

If you ask me a 22lr should be in that list of gun's you can use. You can shot one with it when you are hunting rabbit, what makes is so wrong when the season closes for the rabbit. Same goes for a 30-06 like i have, it is ok to use it when you are hunting moose but when the season is closed you are not. SOMEONE got it all %$#@ up.
Because according to the people who make the rules, if you ( or anyone else) are carrying a high powerd rifile in the woods coyote hunting and happen to stumble across a moose or caribou, they think just because you are legally allowed to carry that rifle it will tempt you to shoot it !! Pesonally I think its unfourtanite that they paint all hunters with the same brush. If someone who poachs moose is in coyote hunting with a .223 or 22-250 they are going to take there shot at the moose, and if they dont own a center fire 22 they will just carry on with there high powerd rifle. I am sure that poachers are not really concerd if they have a piece of paper in there pocket allowing them to carry the gun.
Amen Dave
very true David....poachers will be poachers dont matter what kind of gun they have with them!!
Not much left to say, you have summed it up perfectly David!
This is something for the meet this sunday.
Are you allowed to shoot coyote with 22lr during small game season?  I didn't think you were.  Can anyone give me a link or a quote on that rule, i can't find it in the guide.  I gotta say though guys... i do think that people would be more comfortable poaching if they were allowed to carry higher powered rifles with the coyote license.  Or maybe not more comfortable but it would make them harder to catch.  Authorities wouldn't be able to question anyone's actions unless they actually caught em with a big game animal down.  Red handed so to speak haha.
John, You are allowed to use any fire arm to shoot coyotes during open season for any other game including 22lr for small game. I was told this by a wildlife warden, but with a shot gun it has to be #2 or bigger.

i have been looking for coyotes for the past two weeks now i have and area found and know they are there because i have used my caller and they have responded to my calling but i can not give them to give me that shot. does anyone have any tips about calling  them in they could share with me!
