After being screwed around for 5 plus weeks by another gun shop, i went into OP Fishing and Hunting and Jeremy really looked after me.  I purchased a savage axis .223.  I sighted it in myself, and had it hitting the bull at 100 yards consistently.

I went in the woods today in search of a coyote.  i did find 3 sets of tracks that were maybe 24-48 hrs old.  I was told that you can distinguish the coyote tracks by their size and "toe drag" as compared to a fox which is smaller, and has no toe drag.

ill post pics later to show the tracks, and where i was hunting.  i didnt really expect to kill an animal, it was more of a get me out of the house trip.  im wondering tho what are good techniques for calling coyotes?  what kind of terrain do they like to live in? whats the best time of day to hunt them?  do you set up downwind or upwind of where you expect to see the animal come out?

if anyone has some tips and tricks, id greatly appreciate it!  i dont have a fox pro caller, its the regular call that looks like a duck call...i honestly dont know what its called.  anyways....thanks in advance for all the help!

Hi Jamie. Did you price your .223 anywhere else? Im looking for the same rifle. Best price I have found is online at Cabelas. I must admit I am little hesatant to buy a rifle online though.
Yes ask tony cooney he is the coyote Admin and he will help you out jamie.

Hey Steve. I purchased all my guns from Cabelas online. I have nothing but good reviews for them. The only down fall is you don't get to handle the gun before you purchase it and it takes a while to go through the registering process.

I found a .223 at OP. My first time in the store.  I got the Savage Stainless Steel without a scope. Would have only saved 20 bucks buying it online. Not worth the risk of having to Deal with Canada Post! I wont be bringing it home anytime soon though, my card was expired..Lol. Should have it in a few weeks I guess.. I have a Leupold 3-9-40 Rifleman to mount on it. Should be fun!
the more open the better for coyotes they will try to come downwind of you or sound or bait to see if anything there that may kill or hurt then  are you using a caller  this time of yr  they about to have there puppys

dawn and dusk are there most active times and wind is there friend , there sense of smell equals any dogs. they will naturally try to circle a location prior to coming into a call or bait . trying to determin the age of a track is difficult even in the snow.
