Murre (turr) hunters:

All hunters must purchase and be in possession of a Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit and a Habitat Conservation Stamp while hunting murres. This hunt is only open to residents of Newfoundland and Labrador. Murres are the only migratory bird that can be legally hunted from a power boat. Any occupant of a boat who shoots or retrieves murres, or anyone who operates a boat to pursue murres, is hunting as defined in the Migratory Birds Regulations and is required to hold a Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit.

In Newfoundland and Labrador, non-toxic shot must be used to hunt migratory birds, except for murres (turrs). For those birds still hunted with lead shot, remove the lead shot before cooking whenever possible in order to reduce your exposure to contaminants.

in the rules and reg it says you are allowed 20 per day and 40 in your possesion per person,if you have three guys in a boat does that mean your allowed 60 turrs for that day,or is it 40.

Right on, I guess the weather will be the biggest factor. Fingers crossed we will get a few good days.

I know this might be a long shot but I'll try anyways. First year at the turrs and I'm just looking for a few spots on the avalon with some decent boat launches that I could go for a look. I don't want anyone to tell me where there are turrs. garyjameswilliams1987@gmail.com

I heard the # 3 score shells last year were terrible, gun power every where. We didn't find that with the # 4. Be interesting to see what the shells are like this year. The ones we used had 1 1/4 load & 1330 velocity. Worked really well.

I use federal #4 2 &3/4. Never had a missfire with them. I will sometimes sneak in a 3" blackcloud for some longer shots.

I have used Score shells and find that they are good but they leave a lot of powder residue. I also found that the occasional box has a dud in it. Can't beat the federals but they don't have enough drams of powder hence to many cripples. My shell of choice now is Prairie Storm #4. A little pricy but with the price of gas it is worth spending a few extra dollars on.
