All hunters must purchase and be in possession of a Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit and a Habitat Conservation Stamp while hunting murres. This hunt is only open to residents of Newfoundland and Labrador. Murres are the only migratory bird that can be legally hunted from a power boat. Any occupant of a boat who shoots or retrieves murres, or anyone who operates a boat to pursue murres, is hunting as defined in the Migratory Birds Regulations and is required to hold a Migratory Game Bird Hunting Permit.
In Newfoundland and Labrador, non-toxic shot must be used to hunt migratory birds, except for murres (turrs). For those birds still hunted with lead shot, remove the lead shot before cooking whenever possible in order to reduce your exposure to contaminants.

in the rules and reg it says you are allowed 20 per day and 40 in your possesion per person,if you have three guys in a boat does that mean your allowed 60 turrs for that day,or is it 40.

No sportsmanship there for sure. We didn't go out as we have our quota. All it takes is for people to play by the rules. Enforcement is the solution.
There was a boat out the whole day. We went out in the morning and uncle went out and said the same boat was there when he was there. Same boat that fired across us twice. we went to go speak to them and they took off. They must of had a limit of 10 men for sure. we had 40 in an 1Hr and 20 min. That croud was shooting way more than us. Kevin we picked up two turrs and see 1 puffin and a few bullbirds. Not fit. I don't need anymore thank god for that. Best worst first trip of the year.
Here is a copy of an email I sent to the CWS forum on migratory bird harvest allocations for 2016/17.
Although the murre population is healthy, to many birds are being taken. This is mainly due to a lack of enforcement. It is imperative that the Canadian Wildlife Service put more officers in Newfoundland & Labrador to monitor the harvest of murres. A reduction of ten birds per seasonal bag limit from the current forty to thirty would be adequate. Many hunters are concerned that the current harvest is unsustainable.
Thanks Peter, I will be suggesting a reduction in quota to fifteen per person with a seasonal bag limit of thirty. I will also strongly lobby for greater enforcement. We'll see where that goes.
