A young woman from Lewisporte is desperately trying to find her missing beagle puppy she got after ending cancer treatments. Samantha Martin, 22, has battled a very tough form of cancer, neuroblastoma, which she was diagnosed with in 2011. Coping with the surgeries and chemo, Martin says she needed something to take comfort in, and decided to get a dog.
Martin says throughout her cancer she wanted something to look forward to and hold on to. She says to lose the dog already is…

A group of anglers and hunters has launched a petition calling on the provincial government to take a responsible approach to moose management. The group, which is concerned about the emotional response to moose-vehicle collisions in the province, argues that the provincial government has to take serious measures to ensure the moose population doesn't continue to decline. On VOCM Backtalk with Paddy Daly, Edward Smith said people have to take a greater responsibility and accept that we…

Middle Cove Beach is abuzz today, now that the capelin are rolling. Children and parents, fishermen and tourists have all come down to Middle Cove -- some for sport, others just for fun. The capelin aren't just attracting people; flocks of gulls have been drawn to the area, and whales are also getting in on the bounty, all of which iis adding to the spectacle for residents and tourists alike.
All that activity is causing a few problems for traffic in the area. Mayor of Logy Bay,…

It seems hunters are saying the numbers of ducks are down this year from other years. Hunters from all areas of the island portion of the province are having the same experience. " Numbers are down". Down from where you ask? Down from the wild, not the heavy populated metro areas. St. John's, Mount Pearl, Paradice and CBS are full of waterfowl. Almost every pothole that has water in it, has ducks. Not 2 or 3 but by the hundreds. Bowring Park, Quida Vida Lake, Waterford River and the list…

OTTAWA—Prime Minister Stephen Harper has acted to kill any attempt by a provincial or future federal government to recreate the doomed long-gun registry.
In a surprise move aimed at putting a bullet in the registry for good, the Conservative government bill tabled Wednesday orders the commissioner of firearms to destroy “as soon as feasible” records related to 7.1 million long-barreled guns collected over the past…

Hi Folks,
If anyone would like to attend a waterfowl calling seminar, whether you would like to share your calling experience or learn. Could you please enter your name on the the list.
I, myself am no pro caller, but Ed & myself would certainly share any information that we have to help you become a better caller. If we get enough interest we will schedule the seminar.
Thanks
Peter

Someone is selling lemon beagle pups in Shearstown. The pups are in poor health. One of the common problems is hip dysplasia. I'm not sure who the seller is. One of our own has a dog from this guy and the vet told him, it's from over breeding or the mother was in poor health her self.

I am very interested in starting up, the Newfoundland ATV Federation.
I think the time has come for us to stand up to the forces that want to see this sport gone completely. The amount of tourism this sport could create in this province is astounding. We have a beautiful province, rich in wildlife, scenery and the friendliest people in the world. The government, I'm sure is aware of the potential for the influx of visiters, to view this province via the old railway bed.…

The Notre Dame Rod and Gun Club has been trying to get the province to lower the legal hunting age in NL to try and encourage more youth involvement. The aim is to reduce the age to 12 yrs as in other jurisdictions in Canada so you can take your children/grandchildren hunting and get them interested while young. The Canadian Wildlife Service did put a Waterfowl Heritage Day in place in NL in 2008 (at our club's request) allowing a special day prior to the regular season to allow young hunters…
