Final summations will be made at the end of next month at the moose-vehicle accidents class-action lawsuit. The trial ran for about three weeks at Supreme Court in St. John's. The lawsuit involves 135 plaintiffs, including at least 15 estates of those killed in collisions since 2001. The lawsuit argues the province never came up with a clear prevention policy but the government says its prevention efforts include roadside brush clearing and warning devices.

Compassion trumped a hunting instinct after a bull moose, which was found in distress on the Port au Port Peninsula last weekend, was rescued.
Several men from the Piccadilly area found the animal which had become wedged in a drainage ditch that was covered with snow, and was unable to get out.

Hunters were going after threatened Mealy Mountains herd: source
A group of Innu hunters from the Quebec North Shore were recently prevented from illegally hunting the threatened Mealy Mountains caribou herd in Labrador, according to a source.
The 10 or so hunters were headed to the Birchy Lakes area, about 150 kilometres away from Happy Valley-Goose Bay, when wildlife officers stopped them.

For those Hunters who would like hunt for Caribou on the Island portion of Newfoundland and Labrador, Iam upset with the Licence shareing. For instance; are 61 has a quota of 70 Lic. 39 of those go to Non Residents, Are 62, Quota 90, 49 Lic. allocated to Non Residents,area 64, 140 Lic Quota 61 Lic. to Non residents. The list goes on. Wildlife officers have confirmed two polar bear sightings in the St. Anthony area. A snow plow struck one of the animals on the highway near Raleigh yesterday. The district manager with the Department of Natural Resources, George Gibbons, says they found the animal, tracked it for some distance and determined that it did not appear to be hurt.
