The Notre Dame Rod and Gun Club has been trying to get the province to lower the legal hunting age in NL to try and encourage more youth involvement. The aim is to reduce the age to 12 yrs as in other jurisdictions in Canada so you can take your children/grandchildren hunting and get them interested while young. The Canadian Wildlife Service did put a Waterfowl Heritage Day in place in NL in 2008 (at our club's request) allowing a special day prior to the regular season to allow young hunters…

Ed,
We are a Canadian based organization as we were started here in Canada by James Ford Bell on the Delta marsh located on the shores of Lake Manitoba. The Delta marsh is still home to one of our research stations along with Minnedosa MB. We do have a U.S office in Bismark, N.D as well as our Canadian office in Winnipeg M.B in which is also home to Mr. Rob Olson as the president of Delta Waterfowl. As for increasing populations we have many different programs such as our hen house…

Being from Newfoundland, I am a member of Delta Waterfowl here in Alberta. They produce a very educational semi-monthly magazine, full of information. Their website has a lot of "how too" videos, about waterfowl hunting and great recipies. Delta Waterfowl is US based, so a lot of the information on their website about the organizations contains US material.
That being said, I would encurrage this group or any other conservation group if your objective to increase migratory populations or…

Just wanted to leave a note about the nest box photos I just uploaded...last winter I put a few around the ponds that I hunt and we just put up the first of this year that my 9 an 11 year old daughters nailed together..I think it is a great way to give a little back (not to mention that if even one of your boxes produces a nest, then you have an excellent chance of a shot in the fall)!
Also wanted to note that this site has reminded me to take my camera in the woods! Most of my pics…

It is a sad day! The end of another Freshwater duck season! This year had its share of excitement and upsets. But, Overall I think I had a successful duck season. From gaining a new hunting buddy to the creation of this network, this year has been an accomplishment. With only a little over 200 days left til next season, I have a lot of work to do! LOL

Fewer Kids are not learning to hunt and fish today than in any other era. Among the reasons: A drop in rural populations, a rise in technology, an increase in the number of single parent households(many often don’t have the time or means to take their child afield), and the increase in urbanization.
Most children learn to hunt and fish when someone takes them hunting. We as hunters and fishers must take our children (or nieces and nephews, neighbour’s child, etc.) into the outdoors.…
